why do song get stuck in our head???

You're driving to class, listening to your favorite radio station, when on comes Ne-yo's "Miss Independent". By the time you pull into your campus parking lot, you have, "miss independent...that's y i luv her..lalala.." running through your head. You hum it at your desk. You sing it on your way to the discussion room. You tap it out on the table during your discussion. Suddenly, your friends are shooting you the evil eye and you're ready to pull your hair out.

Why do songs get inextricably stuck in our heads?

Experts say the culprits are earworms. No, they're not parasites that crawl into your ear and lay musical eggs in your brain, but they are parasitic in the sense that they get lodged in your head and cause a sort of "cognitive itch" or "brain itch" -- a need for the brain to fill in the gaps in a song's rhythm.
When we listen to a song, it triggers a part of the brain called the auditory cortex. Researchers found that when they played part of a familiar song to research subjects, the participants' auditory cortex automatically filled in the rest -- in other words, their brains kept "singing" long after the song had ended. The only way to "scratch" brain itch is to repeat the song over and over in your mind. Unfortunately, like with mosquito bites, the more you scratch the more you itch, and so on until you're stuck in an unending song cycle.
There are many other theories about why songs get stuck in our heads. Some researchers say stuck songs are like thoughts we're trying to suppress. The harder we try not to think about them, the more we can't help it. Other experts claim that earworms are simply a way to keep the brain busy when it's idling. Just as there are many theories, there are many names for the phenomenon. It's been called everything from "repetunitis" to "melodymania."
So why do some songs get stuck in our heads and not others?
this is a quest for you to ponder..hehe

You Don't Have a Boyfriend Because You are Too Busy

While a relationship sounds nice, you're strapped for time

Whether you're legitimately busy or just making excuses...

... You don't give men enough of your time.

As nice as "instant love" would be, there's just no such thing.

haha...told u~~
i was bored n i did this test
Why don't you have boyfriend??

i am totally agree with the outcome
it is so true..hehe..
i am busy~~dont even have time to get to know a guy seriously~~

can i just wait for 'him' to come??
i am too busy to search one

doctors vs computer???

now come the Personal and Professional development(PPD) module..
this is the module that most of medical student will be never care bout it..
alaaa....communication skill, critical thinking, stress management...
perlu ke nk blaja sume ni????

i believe lots of medical student nowadays never had a thought that all of this is important..
as long as there is no such slicking medical terms used in the module...
TADA!!!
the module considered NOT IMPORTANT..

well...
that is absolutely wrong actually
first, there will be a final paper on this module
which lastly will force the people who think this not important to study PPD anyway
if you fail the paper, you still have to repeat the paper again..
secondly, this module is the major module that teach us how to be a good doctors ahead

cellular biomolecular,body tissues,membrane and receptors,human genetics
these modules are the one that will assure the DR title in the beginning of our name
BUT....
PPD module is the one that will determine whether we will be a good doctors
or just another slickly lazy plus arrogant doctors
in a more simple words, this PPD module will teach us the so-call soft skill

let me give you an analogy on this...
imagine the computer..
within it must be a hard drive and the right software
in order to function well and help us completing our assignments at the very
last minutes..

hehe
same situation with the PPD problem,
being a doctor is like the computer
which is needed to help and treat sick people at the very critical moment
we need the hard drive which is all the basic science theory
that we've learn in lectures while the PPD acts as the software

so...
for those who being so lazy to study PPD and
consider it as NOT IMPORTANT
well, sorry to say...you'll be infected by trojan and viruses very easily

and those doctors that has been infected by so-call trojan will never being
respected by his/her patient and even his/her other colleagues in medical field
this will never be me coz i love PPD
haha

a.lesson.for.us

firstly,
im so sorry for abandoning my blog for quite a few weeks
i am seriously so damn busy
formmative assesment and all those exco works
i just cant help even myself!!!

neway,
my watch shows sharply 5.00 am now
and i am not even having my night sleep yet
haha~~
final is in 2 weeks time
the 'insomnia' thing has started!!!
(let us leave all the 'narcolepsy'-please refer to your Dorland's medical term dictionary)
hehe....

let me share my experiences during my little visit to hukm..oooppss..ppukm(pusat perubatan,no longer hospital...im wondering what the different between those two???)
last week~~

me and other fellow group mmbers that's include syud, khai pin, ryan and min jie
went to ppukm for our csl(clinical skill learning) practices..
history taking jer...br 1st year takkan nk suh perform surgery???
huhu~~

as we arrived there that afternoon, the search of psychiatry department started
as our facilitator, dr wan is a psychiatrist clinical specialist...
then we were brought to the medical ward on 6th floor..

this very unfair, the other doctors from other groups brought their groups
to a lots other interesting wards-pediatric,oncology,obstetric n gynae
huhu~~naseb la kn???

in the med ward, each of us have been given one patient to take their history
(not the narcolepsy-induced history that we've been through during school time ya!!)
haha~~~
we were given a task to take the history of the patient's illnesses and
everything associated with the illnesses

the patient that i've got is an 60 years old middle-age malay lady named puan SR
(as the confidentiality between doc n patient very crucial,
i prefer not to reveal her true name)

puan SR is admitted presented with prolonged chill fever associated with nausea,
fatigue and loss of appetite which also causing drastic loss of weight for past 4 weeks.

hhhmmm...
she is still in the diagnose state(meaning she also dont even know what her illness is??)
we were also being tasked to diagnose the patient
(meaning predict what illness the patient really has)
huhu...this is hard because we were not even in our clinical years which is
3rd ,4th and 5th year yet

so, how are we going to diagnose the patient with only the theoretical
knowledge only??

as dr wan said...CINCAI JE LA!!!
haha~~dr wan is a very supportive dr...haha

back to puan SR
when i asked her about her family history,
she started being excited~~she told me that she has 8 children which all
of them has grown up successfully and having a great job
plus their own family each

what a happy life she has??
i am very lucky to have such a coorperative patient unlike my friend, ryan
his patient did not really coorperate and gave him enough info
(without enough info, how can he write the case report??)
poor him...

at the end of the session, we were asked to present our case to dr wan
as usual, i presented my case and i mentioned to dr wan that i
cant find what wrong with my patient~~poor me!!

straightly, dr wan told me that she had blood cancer~~~
multiple myeloma to be exact~

i am feeling so sad for puan SR...
she is having such a happy life, why do god gave her such a big challenge???
we cant never tell why..dont we???
the worst thing is, puan SR dont even know yet that she's having cancer
huhu~~
sume keje tuhan...everything that's happening around us has its own 'hikmah'
hhmmm...

this should be a lesson for me and all my buddies~~
afterall, my little visit to ppukm was very interesting...
love to be there again
(confirm la...as i'll proceed my clinical years there..haha)

~wink~
